I would have to learned to used public transportation, to adapt myself to a new climate, to new rules and especially I have to find myself a job to help my father with the expenses. I thought that the only way to overcome all these was to keep my eyes open in order to have path clear toward my education even though this path has not always been clear.
So if I sow all these unclear path in my life why did I remain in this country and didn’t went back to the Dominican Republic? The answer is simple , through the path of my education I sow that in this country I was going to have a better chance to success even though I have to overcome all these struggles in my life. I don’t regret my father decision bringing us to this country because he made the right decision. I didn’t also wanted to disappoint my father because he had made many sacrifices by raising and educating fourth children by himself as a single parent. The best moments in a day arent in a day. They are at a night. Where the sun has set on the hills and plains of a land. Soon, residented eyes will set as well. Dreams and nightmares await.
They drift off into a weightless trance, while spirits in the background sway like trees in the first warning signs of a storm. Slumber is the name of the mute, rugged mountain man whose job is to simply carry your mind across these deep waters of subconsciousness. He is the only man for the job, for his strength can compare with the weight of our secret thoughts and desires.

It is a time when those being preyed on are least successful, and those who come out to hunt -- usually get what they are looking for. Tonight, I come out for these reasons. Parched eyes skim across familiar pages, wandering in an atmosphere of complete silence. With its momentary call, the grandfather clock provokes me to speak aloud, though he should know by now, that I will not answer.
What is it youre up for? a voice interrupts my rattling fingers and quick-paced thoughts. Suddenly, the tracks float over an airy cliff as my train of thought winds down to a halt. Of all that I was lost in, is now lost. My jaw clenches as I comprehend the setting of reality.
God dammt--I was trying to write! Blood rushes in and out so quickly, I grasp the arm-rests in my chair and swing forward to examine the time.
Well, it is three-thirty in the morning. Her tone melts along with the reminder of the grandfather clock. It is almost like they are ironically telling me at the same time. But I refuse to accept that I should surrender to sleep when the light retires.
I realize that, I scoff, as I perform a child-like whirl in my chair. It seems to amuse me more than it does her, so I stop.
When are you going to bed? She whines. Im tirrrrrred...
So?! My reply comes out wildly-defensive. Whos stopping you? I never said you couldnt go to sleep! Suddenly, my blood races again... with an indignant whirl infront of the computer screen, I convince myself it is not anger. My fingers meet the keys and the sound of clicks and tatters vacate a silence. With her miserable croak, she breaks it.
That--that-- sound!! She slumps on the couch and expectantly watches me-- as if Im supposed to adapt my needs to hers.
Erin! Why do you have to always ruin it for me?!! We both sense an unwanted drama in my tone.
I cant help it, I think as I stare tiredly into her slumber-sunken eyes. Its my time. At night is the only time I can concentrate. Cant she see that?
Youre such a btch when youre writing... she yawns as if reading my thoughts.
Yeah-- well I hope you know why, I blurt out before acknowledging the truth in her statement. Its true. I become hostile, impatient, and selfish when I write. It is such a process that cannot be interfered with, for if it is -- the moment is lost.
A writer is like the landlord awaiting an overdue payment. It is crucial to the tenant who occupies their space. Once the landlord recieves what his obvious, daily visits look for in disguise, he becomes satisfied and relaxed. Before another daily check-up can be faked, the payment is made. Both tenant and landlord breathe a sigh of relief as the backs are turned.
I sit in this chair looking for one thing. It is in the tenants house I pace in, for I am asking myself whether I want to be the tenant or the landlord. I know what I want, but I have to know how to get it. Until I find a way to put the words together, I will sit here; searching my mind of possible answers -- all of which have been proven wrong. Past and previous writers hold the answer key. I grab for it, falling to my knees with to avail. Like a student, I am squirming in a front-row classroom desk during a test. No one can win for me, I depend only on what is inside. Granted, a peer could offer a hint, from which I may succeed an inch closer to discovery. Other than that, I am merely emptying the jargon from my brain into a puzzle of words in which could miraculously make sense to someone else. Someday.
I asked you a question, she repeated sourly.
Yeah?...What? My head raises from my hands. I blink several times.
When are you going to bed?
I stare at the screen, type a quick note, and take this scene as a hint.
Tomorrow I will find you, I say to the heap of words in desparate need of translation.

Weird obsessions. No matter if you admit them or not everyone has them. Mine? Old men. The older the better. My obsession started when I was a little girl. My grandpa and his nine hairs on top of his little head made me fall in love with old men. It’s probably a generalization that all old men are the sweetest creatures ever, but I don’t care. The more wrinkled they are the cuter!
Something else that stands out when I think Theresa Keenan is pianist. My parents made me take piano lessons when I was in nd grade. It was required by my parents for all us girls to take at least 4 years of lessons. I hated taking lessons and I hated playing the piano. But after four years, I found out that I loved the piano and that I really had a talent for it. I continued taking lessons for four more years. I don’t take lessons now but I still play and I love it. I think piano music is beautiful and is defiantly an escape from life for me. This will be my 10th year playing.
I said before that I was raised in a catholic school. Through all my troubled times growing up, the church kind of stuck with me. I started teaching rd graders their religion classes. I loved it! The second year I did nd grade and the third and fourth years I taught 1st. The first graders were my favorite class to teach. This will be my first year not teaching. Between work and school I’m just to busy for it. But I know already that I’m going to miss it.

“I am”
“Who am I?”-A question that can seem difficult to answer for some people. Sister daughter, and granddaughter are a few of the things that come to mind when thinking about me. Other items that come to mind are pianist, teacher, and hockey player.
Born and raised in the little town of Alexandria, I spent most of my early years and a private catholic school. I have two sisters, Lisa and Catherine. Weird obsessions. No matter if you admit them or not everyone has them. Mine? Old men. The older the better. My obsession started when I was a little girl. My grandpa and his nine hairs on top of his little head made me fall in love with old men. It’s probably a generalization that all old men are the sweetest creatures ever, but I don’t care. Something else that stands out when I think Theresa Keenan is pianist. My parents made me take piano lessons when I was in nd grade. It was required by my parents for all us girls to take at least 4 years of lessons. I hated taking lessons and I hated playing the piano. But after four years, I found out that I loved the piano and that I really had a talent for it. I continued taking lessons for four more years. I don’t take lessons now but I still play and I love it. I think piano music is beautiful and is defiantly an escape from life for me. This will be my 10th year playing.
I said before that I was raised in a catholic school. Through all my troubled times growing up, the church kind of stuck with me. I started teaching rd graders their religion classes. I loved it! The second year I did nd grade and the third and fourth years I taught 1st. The first graders were my favorite class to teach. This will be my first year not teaching. Between work and school I’m just to busy for it. But I know already that I’m going to miss it.

Although many small children have imaginary friends, Danny’s friend, Tony, is much different and far from normalcy. Tony tells Danny only bad things that will happen in the future to his family. Danny also accepts things and moves on much more quickly than a child of his age would. Danny had recovered an enraged beating his father had inflicted on him by “accidentally or not accidentally, he had broken [his] arm”(74). Danny’s father, “…had a bad temper…”(74). His father that harmed him would frighten a five-year-old boy. Danny acts way too old for his age and understands many things that even teenagers don’t understand. There were many things that scared Danny that weren’t even relevant to anything later on in the book. A fire extinguisher even scared Danny. How could a fire extinguisher be more frightening than his own father breaking his arm? But it wasn’t even worth getting worried about “as he reached the hose, some trick of the light made the nozzle seem to move, to revolve as if to strike, and he leaped high in the air…” (60). There was nothing that involved the fire hose later on in the book. Besides being frightened over little things, Danny is observetive to see the shaky relationship between his parents. He seems to know everything about the relationship between Wendy and Jack. Even the relationship between Wendy and her mother, he sites up, “Bad. Sad. Mad. It’s like she wasn’t your mommy at all…she’s always thinking about how she would be better for me than you. And how she could get me away from you” (0). That sounds way too mature for Danny’s age. Among the many flaws King has in his writing, one is the way he portrays Wendy Torrance and her motherly attitude toward her son Danny.

Wendy needs to figure her place in the part that she plays as a mother. She really needs to leave Jack and be safe with her son without coming back to him. Through the beginning the reader can see how evil Jack Torrance is going to be to his family.
Jack’s personality is not only particularly predictable to his actions occurring in the hotel, but they are bland and mediocre. He has the possessed feeling in him though, throughout the entire book. “Jack felt a slow, hot grin-the total antithesis of the toothy PR grin-stretch across his mouth. ‘Is that it? I’m surprised Al didn’t tell you. I’ve retired [from drinking]” (10). Jack is an alcoholic gone bad. He is recovered, but the reader can tell that it isn’t totally over yet. Alcoholics are known to have bad tempers, so from the beginning the book tells (about how) Jack Torrance has an alcoholic problem. Jack is so predictable throughout the entire book; the reader can tell that he will harm his family at some point. When Danny’s friend Tony shows him the future, the tone of the speech can easily be connected with Jack Torrance “Come on and take your medicine! Take it like a man!”(48). Later in the book, this quote does come out of Jack Torrance’s mouth. The reader can slowly see how Jack Torrance transforms from his good state of mind to his psychotic, “ ‘Let me out of here!’ Jack raged. ‘Let me out! Danny, doggone it, this is your father and I want to get out! Now do what I tell you!”(57). Jack obviously will be the one to kill or attempt to kill his family. He is the one with the most eventful background especially since he was kicked out of the academy because of harming a student who was slashing his tires. Jack just carries the baggage that can lead to psychotic behavior. That is where the whole ordeal unravels. The Overlook possesses him and makes him into the evil demon that Wendy and Danny feared. The predictions were met correctly when the book unfolded.
The Shining was known for it’s creative plot and storyline that is full of great characters. The only substance in the readers’ eyes was too easily predictable and left unsatisfied. He has the possessed feeling in him though, throughout the entire book. “Jack felt a slow, hot grin-the total antithesis of the toothy PR grin-stretch across his mouth. ‘Is that it? I’m surprised Al didn’t tell you. I’ve retired [from drinking]” (10). Jack is an alcoholic gone bad. He is recovered, but the reader can tell that it isn’t totally over yet. Alcoholics are known to have bad tempers, so from the beginning the book tells (about how) Jack Torrance has an alcoholic problem. Jack is so predictable throughout the entire book; the reader can tell that he will harm his family at some point. When Danny’s friend Tony shows him the future, the tone of the speech can easily be connected with Jack Torrance “Come on and take your medicine! Take it like a man!”(48). Later in the book, this quote does come out of Jack Torrance’s mouth. The reader can slowly see how Jack Torrance transforms from his good state of mind to his psychotic, “ ‘Let me out of here!’ Jack raged. ‘Let me out! Danny, doggone it, this is your father and I want to get out! Now do what I tell you!”(57). Jack obviously will be the one to kill or attempt to kill his family. He is the one with the most eventful background especially since he was kicked out of the academy because of harming a student who was slashing his tires. Jack just carries the baggage that can lead to psychotic behavior. That is where the whole ordeal unravels. The Overlook possesses him and makes him into the evil demon that Wendy and Danny feared. The predictions were met correctly when the book unfolded.
The Shining was known for it’s creative plot and storyline that is full of great characters. The only substance in the readers’ eyes was too easily predictable and left unsatisfied. All that is seen is a boy too mature for his age, a wife too forgiving to accept to be realistic, and a father who is too predictable as a character. Stephen King is known well for this book, but one should think twice about picking up a King book because of the way he had portrayed his characters in this novel. The Shining truly didn’t shine in many ways.
